Cookie & Local Storage Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
This policy explains how Roadworthy utilizes browser storage mechanisms (such as localStorage) and essential session tokens to deliver a fast, reliable, and privacy-first experience across the Portal.
No Advertising & No Profile Trading
Roadworthy does not use third-party advertising cookies, cross-site ad networks, or advertising profiling scripts, and we do not sell or share your vehicle searches, saved garage, or location data with advertisers. Those categories of data stay under your control.
Product Analytics
To measure feature usage and diagnose errors, Roadworthy runs product analytics with PostHog, hosted in the European Union. PostHog stores a first-party anonymous device identifier in your browser, either as a cookie or in localStorage, and receives aggregated usage events. The registrations you search are never sent to PostHog, and only the primary vehicle you explicitly set in your profile could appear in your analytics profile. Analytics data is used only for product improvement, never for advertising, and is never resold. If you are signed in, some profile preferences (such as your email address, home postcode and primary vehicle) are attached to your analytics profile so we can recognise and support you. You can inspect or clear this identifier at any time using your browser's site-data or cookie controls.
Browser Storage Keys
We store the following items directly on your device inside browser localStorage. Most are strictly functional and required for the application to operate correctly:
| Storage Key | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| roadworthy_auth_session:v1 | Essential Session | Stores your secure sign-in token when logged into Supabase Auth. |
| roadworthy_user_profile:v1 | User Preferences | Saves your home postcode, fuel search radius, default fuel grade, and alert options. |
| garage:saved | Local Garage | Saves your pinned vehicle VRMs, nicknames, custom service trackers, and vehicle specs locally. |
| search-history:recent | Search History | Keeps up to 10 recently searched registrations so you can quickly re-open a vehicle. |
| roadworthy:push_subscription | Notifications | Stores your Web Push subscription endpoint for MOT and VED tax reminders. |
| roadworthy:mot_watch_sessions:v1 | Notifications | Tracks active MOT watch sessions for status and completion. |
| roadworthy:risk-alert-dedup:v1 | Notifications | Records which risk or recall alerts you have already seen so alerts are not repeated. |
| roadworthy.map-styles.v1 | App Cache | Caches the theme-aware map stylesheet so interactive maps load instantly. |
| garage:mot-history-collapsed[:VRM] | UI Preferences | Remembers whether MOT history details are expanded or collapsed for each saved vehicle. |
| garage:specs-collapsed[:VRM] | UI Preferences | Remembers whether vehicle quick-spec panels are expanded or collapsed for each saved vehicle. |
| theme | User Preferences | Saves your light or dark theme preference. |
| ph_<token>_posthog | Analytics | Anonymous device identifier used by PostHog for product analytics and error diagnostics. |
Managing Your Storage
Because all preference data is stored locally within your web browser, you can inspect or clear your stored data at any time by accessing your browser's Settings → Privacy → Clear Browsing Data (or Site Data). Clearing your local storage will reset your saved preferences and log you out of active sessions.
